What Are InstaWP Credits?

InstaWP Credits are your prepaid account balance, think of them as your InstaWP wallet.

Instead of charging your card every time you pay for a site, purchase a template, or use Advanced site management, InstaWP first checks if you have credits available. If you do, they’re applied automatically. 

If your credits don’t cover the full amount, only the remaining balance is charged to your payment method.

Why Adding InstaWP Credits is a Win-Win Situation

InstaWP Credits are more than a feature. They are your ticket to ultimate benefits, including:

1. Peace of Mind with Pre-Funded Payments

When you add credits to your account, you already have a balance ready to cover your upcoming payments. This means you can have peace of mind knowing that when your monthly or yearly payment cycle approaches, the amount is auto-deducted from your available credits, no card transactions, no waiting, no surprises.

Without credits, you rely entirely on your card for every payment. And card payments can fail for many reasons:

• Card expired or blocked
• Spending limit exceeded
• Bank flagged the transaction as suspicious
• Auto-payment processing issues on the payment gateway’s end

When payments don’t go through on time, your account can be suspended. For developers and agencies managing client sites, this can create serious problems—sites going offline, missed deadlines, unhappy clients, and scrambling to resolve payment issues at the worst possible time.

For example, during our Black Friday sale, we were offering 41% extra credits. So if you purchase $100 in credits, you receive $141 in your account.

This is free money you’d otherwise leave on the table.

Who Can Buy InstaWP Credits?

Everyone with an InstaWP account can buy and use credits.

With the launch of v3, our major platform release in 2025, our user base now consists of two groups:

Legacy Users

These are users who have been with InstaWP since before the v3 release. Legacy users are on fixed plans where they pay a set monthly or yearly cost for their subscription.

Pay-As-You-Go Users

These are users who signed up after the V3 release. Pay-As-You-Go users are billed based on the resources they consume, you pay for what you use.

Credits Work for Both

Whether you’re a Legacy user or a Pay-As-You-Go user, credits function the same way:

• Legacy users: When you add credits, your fixed monthly or yearly subscription cost is automatically deducted from your available credit balance.
• Pay-As-You-Go users: When you add credits, your resource-based charges are automatically deducted from your available credit balance.

In both cases, credits act as prepaid funds that cover your InstaWP expenses before any card charges are made.

How to Add InstaWP Credits

Adding InstaWP Credits is easy and is done under a minute. You add them once and InstaWP automatically uses them for eligible charges so you do not have to complete a manual payment every time.

First, open your InstaWP dashboard and go to Profile. Your avaliabe credits are mentioned here.

Now click on Add Credits. A popup will open where you can choose how much you want to add.

You have two options:

1. Select a preset amount (fastest option)
2. Choose Custom and type your own amount (useful if you want a specific top-up value)

After selecting or entering the amount, click Add Credits to complete the purchase. Once the transaction is processed, you will see a success confirmation. Click Done, and your credits are added to your account.

If you have a coupon code (for example during a promotion), the flow is the same with one extra step.

As you click on Add Credits and enter your top-up amount (preset or custom), enter your coupon code in the coupon field and click Apply. You need to make sure that you’re entering the minimum credit amount to claim a coupon code. For instance, when we were running the Black Friday sale, the coupon code, INSTA41, was applicable only for $100 or above credits.

As soon as the code is applied, InstaWP updates the summary automatically so you can see the final total credits you will receive before you pay. This helps you confirm the promo benefit right inside the popup.

When the totals look correct, click Add Credits to complete the purchase, then click Done after the success message.

To verify everything, go to Credit History.

You will see your latest credit purchase along with older ones, including details like credits added and any validity information. This is also where you can track your available credits and total earned credits over time.

How Are Credits Applied?

Automatic, No Action Needed

When any payment is due, whether it’s a subscription renewal, a template purchase, or resource charges, InstaWP automatically:

1. Check your credit balance.
2. Applies available credits to cover the amount.
3. Charge your card only for the remaining balance (if any).

You don’t need to select “pay with credits” or enter a code. It happens automatically at every transaction.

Oldest Credits First

If you have credits from multiple sources (sign-up bonus, purchased, promotional), InstaWP uses them in the order they were added, oldest first.

This ensures that any credits with expiry dates (like the 60-day sign-up bonus) get used before your permanent credits.

Partial Payments Work Too

If your InstaWP credit balance is lower than the amount due, you do not need to top up immediately or manually split the payment. InstaWP automatically uses whatever credits you have first, then charges only the remaining amount to your saved payment method. This is what we mean by partial payments.

Say you have $40 in InstaWP Credits in your account. Now imagine you trigger a charge of $99 (for example, a site plan renewal or usage-based billing).

Now, here is what happens. InstaWP checks your credit balance and applies the maximum it can. Since you have $40, it applies all $40 to the $99 charge. It then calculates what’s left:

$99 total charge − $40 credits applied= $59 remaining

Instead of charging the full $99 to your payment method, InstaWP only charges $59 because credits already covered the first $40. So, you’ve used every available credit you had, and you only paid the leftover amount. No manual splitting, no extra checkout steps.

How to Earn InstaWP Credits

You don’t always have to top up credits manually. InstaWP also lets you earn credits through a few common paths, depending on how you use the platform and when you join.

Sign-Up Bonus

When you create a new InstaWP account, you may receive a $25 sign-up credit. This is meant to help you try InstaWP quickly without paying upfront. These credits must be used within 60 days, so they are best for early testing like launching a sandbox, creating a staging site, or running a quick build.

Affiliate Program

If you share InstaWP with your audience (clients, followers, community, or other developers), you can earn credits when someone signs up through your affiliate link and makes a purchase. This is useful for creators, agency owners, and plugin/theme developers who already recommend tools publicly.

Referral Milestones

Referrals can also unlock milestone-based bonus credits. That means you may earn extra credits when the people you referred reach specific usage levels or activity thresholds. Think of it as a rewards ladder that grows as your referrals keep using InstaWP.

Promotions and Giveaways

InstaWP runs seasonal promos, community events, webinars, and occasional giveaways where you can earn bonus credits. These are usually time-bound campaigns, so the main benefit is getting extra value during the promo window (for example, topping up and receiving bonus credits on top of your purchase).

InstaWP Credit Expiry: What You Need to Know

Not all credits behave the same, so it helps to know which ones expire and which ones don’t. In InstaWP, most credit types are permanent, and only the free sign-up credits have a time limit.

Is It Necessary to Buy Credits?

No. Buying credits is completely optional.

You are not required to add credits to use InstaWP. The platform works perfectly fine without them:

• Legacy users can continue paying their fixed monthly or yearly subscription via card as usual.
• Pay-As-You-Go users can continue paying for site plans and resources via card as charges occur.

Credits are simply an optional cushion; a way to prepay and protect yourself from last-minute payment hassles, failed transactions, or account interruptions.

Think of it like keeping a prepaid balance on a toll pass. You don’t have to use it, but it makes every trip smoother when you do.

How to Check Your Credit Balance

1. Log in to your InstaWP dashboard.
2. Click Subscription in the left sidebar.
3. Select Credits History.

On this page, you’ll see:

• Your total available balance
• The source of each credit (purchase, promo, referral, sign-up bonus)
• Expiry dates for any time-limited credits

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Credits

1. Top Up During Sales

We run bonus credit promotions during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and other events. Since purchased credits never expire, buying during these windows is risk-free savings.

Example: “Buy $100, get $150” = 50% more value on every future purchase.

2. Use Your Sign-Up Bonus Early

Your $25 sign-up credits expire in 60 days. Don’t let them go to waste. Apply them toward:
