Ciao, colleghi WordPressers!

Excuse me, but I’m still buzzing with excitement from WordCamp Europe 2024—it was absolutely breathtaking!

My journey from India to Torino, Italy, was nothing short of an adventure. We traveled through Dubai and Milan, eventually taking a train to Turin. Along the way, I met Colin from FooEvents and his lovely family. We even made a friendly bet on who would reach the event venue first—his shuttle or our trains and bus. Spoiler alert: I lost!

Torino, known for its refined architecture and cuisine, was a breath of fresh air. We arrived supercharged and ready for the event!

Highlights from WordCamp Europe 2024

WordCamp Europe 2024 rocked the Lingotto Exhibition Center in Torino, Italy, from June 13 to 15. The venue buzzed with an amazing crowd, all passionate about WordPress. Check out these impressive stats:

  • 726 contributors
  • 79,059 strings translated in 29 languages
  • 60+ sessions across three tracks
  • 60+ speakers
  • 40+ sponsors
  • 69 organizers

These numbers speak volumes about the event’s massive scale!

Contributor Day
Although I missed out on contributing due to late registrations, I made some fantastic connections with fellow contributors. The stats clearly show how successful the contributor day was.

From updating documentation for the upcoming 6.6 release to onboarding new contributors for the support forums and testing teams, and identifying ways to improve plugin security, the passion of the WordPress Community truly shines.

I also attended the Freemius Makers Meetup on the same day, which was an absolute delight!

Swag Struggles and Local Heroes

Our journey into WordCamps without stylish swag? Unimaginable! Especially when we’re the sponsors—InstaWP swag is a must! But, oh, the obstacles we faced! A glitch delayed our shipment from India, leaving us crestfallen. Thankfully, a local vendor swooped in, printing fabulous swag and pens overnight. Can you picture us without our swag in a new city? The hustle was real!

Yet, as always, local heroes came through. Having a vendor who could produce top-notch swag on the spot was both surprising and impressive.

InstaWP managed to give away exciting swags and guess what! It was a total hit!

Matt Mullenweg’s Mid-Year Project Update

In a recent mid-year update, WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg unveiled exciting advancements across various projects. Highlights included the flourishing contributor program, live demonstrations of upcoming features like Translate Live and Playground, and a new initiative focused on data liberation.

Audience engagement was high, with questions spanning topics such as Gutenberg’s development, the innovative Playground, and requests for quicker bug fixes, which Matt acknowledged and pledged to expedite.

The closing remarks from Matt left a lasting impression on me. I see Gutenberg as poised to redefine what WordPress can achieve, showcasing its potential like never before. Moreover, I’m thrilled about WordPress Playground, a feature recently integrated into InstaWP, promising new dimensions of creativity and functionality for our users.
